I bought this a few days ago at a thrift store, and at a fairly big price , $50.
    It measures 15" x 10"
I did a image search & a few tables came up, but no ashtray?
Is this professionally made or by a hobbyist?
    Is it mid century?
    Thank you for any info.

That’s a fabulous bonkers bit of Italian sixties into seventies pottery. The style of the word Italy is often a good clue to who made it. Might be Bitossi even.

So this $50 well spent, right?

There’s an excellent Bitossi Facebook group who can also point to other makers.

    Well worth what you paid.

Wow, what a great deal that was - I would have been running out of the store with that Ikea commercial playing in my head, 'start the car' lol:) Here is a link to the FB group bear mentioned, they will be able to help out.
