It's such a widely reproduced print. Think I have one somewhere, from the 1970s. Maybe someone will have thoughts on how to assess the age of this one.

The writing in the bottom left section of the image looks like it's in the plate, since it appears to be the same as the print on liveauctioneers. So it seems to me it's not likely the print is an original... which makes me wonder why the liveauctioneers one was estimated to sell so high. Did you see the actual sale price?

The only thing I can think of is people love their cats, so maybe any decent cat image sells well, original or not?

Thanks all, the one on liveauctioneers sold for $250 which I also found quite surprising..

I do too. Perhaps because it was in an elaborate frame. Unfortunately, yours has water damage which greatly hurts its value.

Good point about the frame, Debora. That could well be why the one on liveauctioneers sold for that amount.

I think it'd best be described as "perceived value."

The original dates to 1914 and a 1914 example will be worth something.
