Hi, I have this beautiful jewellery set from the USA, I think from the 1950's/1960's? The stones look like they could be saphiret? Were they still using them that late? The stones are quite big (2cm x 1cm each). No maker's mark. The bail and the chain are sterling silver. Any information gratefully appreciated!

As the earrings are for pierced ears, going to be later. (Pierced ears weren't fashionable until the 1970s.) I'd think 1980s. The chain doesn't appear (to my eye) to be original to the set.

Thanks very much, hadn't thought for the pierced earrings!

    Beautiful set, Chloe.
The studs could have been soldered on later, they look like a later addition, compared to for instance the pinback. Although I don't see any evidence of previous clips.

First thought was the earrings have been altered to pierced. Techinically Sappharine, a later imitation of Saphiret, but anyone who listed these would describe these as "Saphiret". The newer versions of Saphiret have a different look, but still very collected. I'd say 1950's-70s. A desirable set.

Necklace chain might or might not be original to the set.

I, too, thought the pierced earring findings were a later addition and not original, and I also looked in vain for evidence of previous clips. Perhaps the earrings are actually bits broken off of what is now the necklace pendant?

The style is pure 1980s. Would/could you post another photograph of the earring backs only? Shot from straight above and with brighter light?

Thanks! I think you are spot on! One side of each of the earrings and either side of the necklace have traces of solder! They must have been part of the necklace, which would then have been the same shape as the brooch. So the backs were a later addition.

So they were two identical brooches and someone pulled one apart and created a pendant and earrings?

I'd bet on a brooch and pendant that matched. Possibly the pendant broke, I hope, and someone broke it more to creat the parure. (three piece, or more, set) If they broke a perfectly good sappharine pendant I could be most wroth with them.
