I don't know what to call this. A ring? A round object? It's got some really strange "carvings" on the outside. I have now idea what it is or where it's from. It came from the same place my other objects that I've asked about; a box from a Turkish import/exporter. The back is more colorful than the front. The front is pretty tarnished. It is exactly 5" in diameter and the metal part is exactly 1" in diameter.

Any info will be greatly appreciated.

I'm gonna take a guess that this was a lid to a jar or dish. I think this is the remaining outer metal ring - and there used to be glass in the center - the glass probably attached somehow to the metal piece using the three small holes on the piece. You can see a metal hinge piece remaining where it would have attached to the dish/jar/whatever it was a lid for. I could be completely wrong :)

As to the motif - I'm seeing a cherub on either side, and shells - and what appears to be Neptune's face at the top. Again - could be wrong. EDIT -- Just wanted to add that the cherub on the left is holding a fish - which is consistent with the Neptune motif.

What I see too. Classical motif; not Near Eastern.

I see the same motifs, and nothing Middle Eastern at all.
Turkey is between Europe, the Middle East and Central Asia. A Turkish importer/exporter could have items from any of these regions, in this case Europe.

Interesting fact. Turkey is the only country in the world that spans two continents, Istanbul being in Europe and Ankara, the capital, in Asia.

That's right. The Turks pride themselves on their transcontinental identity, many businesses use the word Avrasia (Eurasia) in their name.

Looks American to me, decorative bronze mirror or picture frame. Three threaded holes, one still holding broken screw, are for clips holding mirror or whatever and the rectangular cavity at base of back is where the stand mated with frame.

I'm with spring on this. The remains of a frame. Brass, late 19th C.

Another oops, Egypt (Africa and Asia).
I do apologize to all Russians and Egyptians.

Obviously, it's back to Geography 101 for me! What I should have said -- and I hereby amend my previous post -- is... Istanbul is the only city in the world that spans two continents.

I think you're right. In any case it is the city that spans two continents beautifully. I was there in the early 70s, when they were building the first bridge across the Bosporus. It was impressive and symbolic, that beautiful location, and the two halves of the bridge seemingly reaching out to each other.
