Doll house furniture? It is very small for anything practical.

Looks like it has a working lock mechanism. Typical dollhouse scale is 1:12. This would translate into an odd sized piece of furniture in real life.

Appears it was affixed to the top of a piece of furniture.

Something along this idea. This is 1900s.
    I think yours is earlier.

Hmmm, English? I think because of the pulls. 4-3/4" high and 4 deep is very small, that would mean a 1" drawer, guesses dollhouse furniture too, late 19th-early 20th century.

There are only 2 drawers; the top one is a double. Think it would be adequate to a gent's bits & bobs.

Yeah, sees that now, still, a 2" top drawer & 1" bottom is pretty small, I would have major issues with my hands in dealing with that. lol:hilarious:

It's from a dressing table, would have been one of a pair, either side of the mirror. Whoever made it needed a spirit level, those handles don't line up.

Yeah, perhaps one of a pair for a deep well dresser, maybe even a custom-made one for a child or adolescent. Walnut, 1870s.

I agree with James, the stamped brass pulls look English Art Nouveau-ish, and I think I see burl wood on the sides. If not mounted on a larger chest, it may have had some form of foot attached. I'm not completely convinced it's from a deep well dresser, even a miniature one, just too small. Perhaps it's from a dressing stand. The size would definitely limit it's use to jewelry or accessories, such as gent's collar studs and cuff links, but then where would you put the collars? Here's a great site for lots of images of boxes, and a good search filter. https://www.sellingantiques.co.uk/antique-boxes/ jewelry chest bun feet.jpg
