Mirrored pair of cloisonne jars - age/origin?

These have mirrored decoration so I assume were made as a pair. After doing a bit of research/reading online - my mostly uneducated guess on these is early to mid 20th century? They are about 4" high. Also guessing Japanese. Does this sound about right?

    Thank you once again!

I'd have figured them for Chinese. They have that decoration around the top edge that wants to be Chinese, prunus blossoms, peonies, and that blue enamel on the base. But whatever - whoever made them did a good job!

Just did a little more reading here:

    http://www.collect-sell.com/japanese-cloisonne-vs-chinese-cloisonne/

These do look to have the "Ruyie" border as described on that page (I think that's what you were referring to) - and some of the other characteristics of Chinese cloisonne as described there. Probably doesn't matter too much in the end where they came from :)

It can be difficult, because the two countries are neighbours and influences have been going back and forth for thousands of years, especially from China to Japan. The enamel on the base makes me think Japan, in this case.

I imagine they just as likely did have lids as didn't. I don't really know how common it was to have jars like this made without lids - when they were made?

I have no idea aaron. To me when I see a piece with a raised lip/edge I always think there should be a lid, but I could be off base with that thought. They are beautiful pieces, even nicer to have a pair and I'm sure would sell:)
