Models Tobacco Sign

Hi, does anyone know the origins about where this sign came from and what time period it’s from?

the sign is around 36” x 12”

It says Made in USA on the back, so I see no reason to doubt that, As for "when" the style looks 30's to me - sort of "Monopoly-like" gentleman. Unless someone has spent an lot of time "aging" this one, I would think it's from that period, give or take.

It looks legit to me. Does that chipping reveal layering of enamel? Hard to see on my phone.

Did you see if a magnet sticks to it?

Those old signs were made of layers of paint. You should see a white base layer around the chips.

Does the rust have a clear coat over it? It looks kind of shiny. Could just be glare the camera is picking up...

 

Hmm. I dont think its shiny its just the glare.

I am assuming that no clear coat is a good sign!? No pun intended.

One antique store owner told me that in India they make signs to the T of a vintage sign.. From enamel to burying the sign in dirt and making the item look vintage... now I dont think anyone would go out there way to do something like that to a for a sign like this.. maybe gulf, sinclair etc.

I called a mancave shop that specializes in signs... and they wanted a disgusting amount for one just like mine... So I dont if that was one off situation.. from what I see it ranges from 350-500. They wanted 1800. Eighteen hundred

 

offer it to them for $900
