modernist wooden face sculpture

    Can anyone tell me to whom this wonderful 25" h African? wooden face sculpture might be attributed? (didn't see a signature!). Thank you!

    It looks like it might be based on Makonde shetani figures (from east Africa - google Makonde shetani and you will see many examples), but those are usually done in ebony or African blackwood. The wood of yours looks more like one of the species used by Indonesian carvers. Is it heavy, or relatively light weight? I have seen a few other Indonesian imitations of African styles lately. Perhaps this is another one.
