This unusual item was an interesting (for me, at least!) find today. It’s basically a copper baby face soldered into a steel plate, with a hook welded on for hanging. All very industrial-looking but I’m not sure what its purpose was. A mould for a doll’s face, perhaps? Or for a mask? I’m hoping someone here knows as my research so far hasn’t been terribly successful!

Okay, after much research I’m thinking that what I have is not a mould, but a template for spray painting eyebrows onto a doll. Note how the eyebrows are cut open, which makes no sense for a mould. Now, the pupils of the eyes are open as well but I think this was so the painter could check for proper alignment. Does this theory make sense?

Update - this video appears to confirm the paint template / stencil theory: https://www.instagram.com/reel/DCreBkNxd4-/?igsh=ZHBhNmI1ZmkxN2x1
