Hi! I have a lamp that's been in the family for as long as I can remember. The tag on the bottom of the base reads: Mutual Sunset Lamp Manufacturing Company - Issue No. 87,375. Stamped on the base is MSLC 3934. It's a cool floor lamp in perfect working condition, all original parts. Wondering how to date it. Haven't found info on Issue #'s or the base stamps. Also curious if this has some value to it.

I was born in 1970. My best guess is it may have been purchased along with new living room furniture in 1972.

Or later. Maybe another member will remember better than I do when torchieres became the hot thing in lighting. It was a definite fad.

Black wasn't a popular decorating color until the 1980s with High-Tech.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

This lamp on Etsy looks similar to yours, @OnAQuest , but blue.

Their asking price might be wishful thinking, but I don't really know.

They haven't identified it by date, either. They say mid century but I agree with others that it appears to be later.

From what I can tell online, the company existed under that name from 1924 to 1993. So that doesn't help. Others here may know, but apparently they made some high-end lamps. Some large museums have pieces in their collections.

That blue isn't MCM. And notice seller says both "MCM" and "post modern"? The latter more likely.

I had seen the blue one on etsy as well. I was hopeful there was a database that would allow for a search of the Issue Number. I've had no luck finding a resource like that online. I'll have to reach out to some local places, see if they have any idea.
    Appreciate all the help everyone!!

I remember torchieres being very popular in the mid to late 1980s. The thin bulbs would get very hot, and every now and then a fly would make the mistake of landing on it…
