    It's certainly not by the listed American painter Thomas Cole. He died in 1848, long before women wore those fashions.

    I suggest you post a photographs of the entire painting including frame both front and back along with a close-up of the signature and any stickers, labels or handwritten notations on the back. And then tell us where you acquired it and what you were told about it. Also, if you haven't done so already, you might want to do a Google Image search to make sure it's not available in multiples.

    Numbers on the back likely mean it's a factory painting. And did you notice that there's a women's hat hanging center top that is out of proportion to its surroundings and has no visible means of support?

    Thanks Debora. I saw the hat top center. I understand there is another T Cole artist that still lives. I’m sure it’s not authentic Thomas Cole. I do like the subject matter.
