You might want to try to see if there is any fore-edging. It is usually with gilt pages, but sometimes with marbled pages.

This is from one of the descriptions:

I found this 2 books on ebay. First one 1000, the second 950 /OBO.

 

AWESOME BOOK!!!!!! I notice @Moeller, that in your images, on your 4th one down there are two C's in the word BUCCANIERS, but in the 6th image down they spell it with one C on another page......just interesting!!

 

You are correct, misspelling, error??

 

Probably either, and probably more common in an older book......

Do they tell the story of Ocean Born Mary? Her house was in Henniker NH. She was born on board a ship that was taken by pirates. The pirate captain was so taken by the infant, he gave her mother some of the loot, built a house for them and was her mentor during her lifetime. We used to visit the house when I was a child. It's a private home now.
