    IMG_4457.JPG IMG_4457.JPG IMG_4458.JPG Hello;

    I just picked up this chair that I think is kind of interesting. I don't know anything about it; style age make value etc. Can any one help me?
    I am new to the vintage furniture scene, but I think that I'm catching the bug.

    My guess is: Either it's a Frankenstein - that back added later to that bottom - or it's about as transitional as transitional gets. The bottom looks 1920s - the back 1960s.

    Its a bit beat up Should I refinish and reupholster it or will that ruin it?

    Not sure why the photos in the link look squished (at least when I view). It looks like this seat is recovered.

    Mid-mod Danish is getting quite popular, but I think $169 is a bit unrealistic, unless it's an attributed maker. My mother had Danish teak chairs covered in white vinyl, that she got from the Minneapolis-based Scandia Design Store back in the 50's. Based on that I am assuming your black cover is original. It looks as if the seat is a simple board that can be removed. If you want to recover it, do so, just leave the original 50s vinyl in place underneath, as a document.
    To address the wood condition, use a bit of mineral spirits and 0000 steel wool to lightly clean the wood, wipe down with a soft cloth, then apply a good quality paste furniture wax to freshen up the finish.
    Such a conservative approach should not mess with any potential future value.
