these came up at an auction a few weeks ago. But i couldn't really find any figurines or figurals made by John Mortlock Potteries Gallery. Is it possible they bought these and put there name on them. any ideas? they were pretty big about 10" long.

Yes, I was thinking Minton, as well, but wouldn't there be a Minton mark as well? I know factories made stuff specifically for retailers, but? Cutest things, though!

It's quite common to just get a retailer mark. Liberty, for example, wouldn't allow maker marks.
