I recently found this tea pot that looked very bland and worn down.
I was thinking of throwing it away but when I tried to clean it i saw glass underneath. Very soon design started to appear.
Strange thing is, during daylight it looks like glass, now at night, it is not transparent, it looks like ceramics. On the inside bottom there is an imprint that looks like a knight with some sort of feather at the back of helmet.

Not glass. Is the colour gold? Maybe lustreware if gold

Japanese, I think. Some kind of lusterware with decal decoration. Mid-20th century forward. Do you have the lid?

No I dont have the lid.
I picked it up with like 7 or 8 other items .
I wonder why would anyone go to bother of painting it. Its nice as it is.
Flowers and the wheels on it dont look japanese though, but I dont know much really...

It's the rattan handle as much as anything. Much of this kind of thing was exported to the US. The flowers are very much like the décor on them. And a wheel is a wheel the world over.

Was it painted over and that's what you cleaned off?

Looks like a 1970s Japanese teapot missing the lid.

Someone painted it gold for whatever reason.

I once found a small Roseville shell in the foxglove pattern. Someone had painted it gold and put fake flowers in it. Bought it 99 cents.

Yes it was dipped I think into greasy golden paint, even the handle(which has plasticky feel, and I am not sure its ratan either).
I still havent cleaned it totally.
I like its lines and form and I think its hand painted
