Mystery vase

    Hi everyone I came across this vase and it caught my eye it has a square incised mark which I cannot make out!
    It seems to be a quality piece of pottery and normally I can find most things I purchase from sales online but not this one !
    Contemporary Japanese ?
    Does anyone have any knowledge of pieces like this ?
    Really appreciate it
