Best guess I could come up with on this one is perhaps an old Nailsea type bottle - but it's not something I have any experience with. It's 9" long, 5 1/2" wide at the widest point. Well worn on each side where it's been laid down. Holds about 28 ounces (825 ml or so).

Nailsea? Somethine else? Thanks for looking!

it does look like that from a quick search

Spot on for Nailsea, drawn and feathered glass. Probably had a silver stopper although some had glass ones. Early 19th. Or perhaps earlier given the frit in it.

Something new to learn! You guys keep filling my mind - its a wonder it has not exploded yet, what with all of the knowledge you keep pouring into it.

Maybe that just goes to show how empty it was to start with................

Just to be certain, everyone calls it "Nailsea" but there's no documentation that the decoration was ever done there. No, there's no agreement where it WAS done, either.

Not all "Nailsea" was done close to Bristol, true enough, but the received wisdom this side of the pond is that Nailsea glass did turn some out.

Thanks Charlie! It certainly does have a lot of wear - might have been buried and then dug at some point, but I don't think it's been in the sea - the pontil is still got a bit of roughness to it.

Thanks everyone for your very informative replies! Seems like there is no true hard consensus as to their being a true "Nailsea" from "Nailsea" glass - but I think this one does fall into the generally accepted genre. I so appreciate everyone's thoughts! Thanks again!
