Hi! I'm new here and not sure if this question belongs in this topic but here goes...

I just found this cute little egg cup in my parent's basement. It says Nathan Straus and Sons, New York on the bottom with Lamberton China in a kind of crest (see picture). I am pretty sure this belonged to a great Uncle of mine who used to live with us when I was a child but I can't find anything on it. I've found the history of the wonderful Nathan Straus but I can't find anything on this particular piece of tableware. Can anyone tell me anything about it? Thank you! Although the mark says Lamberton, this was made by Scammell just after Scammell purchased Lamberton China, hence the S in the logo. Conroy, in her book Restaurant China Volume 2, shows the mark under Scammell Lamberton China, and dates its use to 1923 - circa 1927

Your egg cup appears to be restaurant ware, meaning it was heavier and more durable, and intended for use in commercial settings. It was possibly used in the a company dining room since it bears the name of Nathan Strauss & Sons vs one of the department stores.

You might try posting at the Restaurant Ware Collector's Network forum. They know RW

Unless I'm very much mistaken, Nathan Strauss was the brother of Isidor Strauss, who drowned on the Titanic with his wife Ida in 1912. Nathan and Isidor operated Macy's Department Store, as well as the department store Abraham & Strauss.

According to Wiki, he did found Macy's, but he didn't die on the Titanic

I never said he did. I said his brother - Isidor - did.
