Native American /or African

I know you can tell by the basket fibers but they all look the same to me they are all between 13”-15” I don’t have any pictures of the backs of baskets but was Hoping someone could tell from the pattern.     They look like the sort of baskets street vendors of African goods sell.

    These are African, palm leaf baskets, from Botswana.

    A great reference, that I always recommend, is Art of the Basket, Traditional Basketry from Around the World, by Bryan Sentance.

    Lacking that, my only advice is to pay prices based on the assumption an unknown basket is Chinese, African, Pakistani, or Indonesian (rather than Native American.) 99% of the time that's what they are.

    Designs can be copied by any competent basket maker, and should never be the only basis for identifying the source.
