Matt

    bit small on the pics but that sure looks like deerskin/buckskin so could be n American, don't see that on African stuff afaik

    possibly Elk skin and by Ojibwe Tribe.

    Size? It doesn't look like any Ojibwe design I have ever seen.

    I think we need larger, more detailed photos to give a better opinion. I would like to be able to see the beading technique - it looks like loom work, but can't tell for sure.

    It is unlikely to be African, imo. Unusual pattern and colour, don't recognize it as NA either. @Christmasjoy .:)
    I agree, on the small pics it looks like loom work.

    The leather does look like brain tanned "buckskin", but could also be commercial chamois. I see machine stitching at the junction of the leather and the lower beaded section. The beadwork is loom woven. Not African, but the best I can say is probably fairly contemporary NA in style.

    I concur.....it now looks NA made, but with a design of no particular tribal meaning..
    It could be 20 or 30 years old , having never been used .....and kept in a drawer..maybe it was sold at a pow wow...

    Maybe a historical reenactment rendezvous piece for tobacco or fire steel
