Main question, is this by a trained painter or novice or someone in between? All opinions welcomed. Another question is anyone offended by the phase "Thanks Guys" when referring to both men and women especially, being that the forum has lots of lady members I would not want to unintentionally offend anyone.

They look to be 20th century so not sure "very old" is the best descriptor. Done by an amateur. (Notice how s/he struggled with the waterfall perspective.) English, I'd think, from the inclusion of the swans. (I know, I know. Swans can be found in the U.S. too but don't hold the same place in our popular imagination.) And a bit of a fantasy given water lilies. As unsigned, not sure you'll ever be able to learn more. Value decorative (unless you can identify locale and even then...)

I agree Debora on age and the "talent level" of the artist. But I also get the impression that these were painted directly on the large sheet of paper. Is that true or are the images on a separate piece and then glued down?

    a single sheet of paper

The border was drawn first and the painter tried to keep the paint inside the border.but it overlaps in some areas, not pasted on.

That's a bit of an odd way to go about creating a painting. The kind of thing an amateur would do. Almost as if they were painted to fit into frames that were already available.

Debora The only sure fact about the above statement is that it is on a single sheet. The borderline may have come after the painting I will look later to see what on top. Now that you mentioned it the waterfall does not look right even if it is a step falls

That's what I was seeing, but wanted to make sure.

from what I can see the moisture damage has negated any value these may have had...
