I'm new here, go easy on me.

Please help me to date and identify an item I purchased today.
I know it's a biscuit bowl because it says biscuits on it. That's about all I know.
The wooden part has old looking rivet things, are these old or modern?
Also, is the bowl thing porcelain or ceramic? It has weird looking cracking patterns in it.
    Thanks

    Welcome,
They are known as a biscuit barrel.

As I said in the other thread, it is a wooden biscuit barrel, probably 1970s or even later. But I am no expert on recent things, so let's wait for the others.:)

Could you post a photo of the bowl thing? Not just the side, but the entire thing, the bottom too please.

These are more late 40's 50's IMO

This one looks like a later reproduction to me. I saw them new in the 70s, with the same gloss is this one. But then again, not my area of expertise.;)

Here is the bottom, this is the only number or identifying mark of any kind that I can find. It has dirt inside of it. I will post more images when I get the chance and get the dirt cleaned out.

Here is separation on the barrel portion if this helps date the wood.

Ah, that looks much less glossy, so could be the date davey thought.
It has probably been too dry for a longer period, maybe on a south facing window sill or near central heating.
We usually see it the other way around, rot due to damp.;)

They're usually 1930s with matching tea and sugar canisters. No more than a tenner in good condition. Sadly, yours isn't.

Without a lid it’s probably not going to be any good for storing biscuits?

Perhaps could still be used as a small ice bucket or a utensil holder. No real value though.

True, they had flat chrome lids.

Let's have a friendly non monetary wager on how much it will pull in a 7 day auction. I guess $11 + buyer paid shipping

What's the opening bid? I'm afraid you won't get a second bidder.

I found a new mystery object today at a yard sale. Does anyone know what this is or what it is called?

I was thinking of starting it at 3.99 on ebay, I haven't listed it yet
