Featured Need Help Figuring Out What This Old Tool Is??

Discussion in 'Tools' started by Robin L. Kiskunes, Oct 21, 2023.

  1. Hi guys,

I found this old Tool at an Estate Sale and could use some help figuring out what the name of this tool is, what it is used for and perhaps what year it was made? I have asked several people and nobody seems to know. Is it an old tool used for repairing jewelry perhaps?

    Thanks very much.

say_it_slowly The worst prison is a closed heart

They say this one is a pocket watch repair tool, bow pliers. (I don't know myself)

    "Bow Pliers.

Used to open and close the bow, when replacing or when repairing the pendant."

"A close up of the Bow Pliers jaws.

The permanently mounted brass insert is used to prevent marring of the bow when closing it to fit onto the pendant.

The inside of the brass insert is corrugated and tapered to accept bows of different sizes.

The grooves milled across serve to prevent bow from slipping when forming and closing it"

  3. Oh so great! Thank you very much for your answer. Very interesting. Now I can tell the other people what it is.
