Stag in Snow. I suspect that was a common decorative subject turn-of-the-century-ish. And likely one of a pair.

Hi Debora thanks for the response so potentially they come in a pair. I have not search the whole attic due to amount of stuff, so hopefully the second one is there.

    Kind Regards

I'd agree that inspired by an original work. Likely title 'Stag at Dawn' and 'Stag at Dusk.'

I would think E. Vouga right given French copyright at bottom of work. Swiss, not French, according the internet.

Emilie Vouga née Pradès in Vevey, died in Geneva.
of no artisic merits and not listed in Switzerland. or as they say in Switzerland - "she'd better have stayed in the kitchen".
I wonder if such artists were used by postcard printers as soon as their copyrights ran out.

found her in the standard German enyclopydia by Thieme/Becker as flower and bird painter and "Autodidakt" (self-taught).

Certainly caught the public's imagination with her work though.

certainly not. if she had been known outside the internet as well, some of her stuff was hanging in museums.
many people mistake google and else for reality.

Her work was widely reproduced in her time. Spoke to many people despite her lack of formal artistic training.
