Not to worry. All new members have difficulty with photographs the first few posts.

What do you know about them? Have you done a Google Images search to ascertain if some are copies, which may well be the case?

  9. Debora - It is an inherited collection and most have been confirmed as originals oils on canvas, albeit some are "after master" renditions, I do know that everything in the collection dates mid 1800's and older. I just lack the expertise to recognize the "after master" vs an original master. The signature pieces clearly will yield results once I decipher who they are :) lol

Side note the girl with the Scottie has a frame that dates to the 1800's as well as the nails used in securing the canvas. :/

The lady dates to about 1920-1925 based on clothing and shoes. That's not saying the frame might be older; they get reused left and right.

Mid-1800s and older? Would you be kind enough to tell us how were you able to ascertain that? And, as above, the 'girl with scottie' is wearing early 20th century dress.

This work does look like it might be a Rembrandt copy (and I see you've entitled you photograph 'Rembrandt' so perhaps you think so too.) You can go to wiki.org, scroll through the artist's works and see if that's the case.

The genre scene is after the Dutch painter David Teniers the Younger's 'The Old Beer Drinker.' c. 1645. The frame with its linen liner appears to be 1960s or later.

Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

Here's one where I was able to enlarge and clarify a bit....at the end of the writing it does show 1776 clearly, which you were probably able to see as well....at the very bottom of the same image I tried to darken what looked like individual letters, but not sure it helped much.....sorry.....

I agree. The canvas on verso seems too light for 1776 though. I also can't see any lining.

OP, it would be fantastic if you could denote recto and verso for each painting. Also please provide a verso shot of each. Suggest removing any dust covers for better help. The back often tells more than the front.

  16. So the landscape painting is signed T. Gainsborough

The Rembrandt painting is an after master rendition still placed mid 1800's but I have no idea as to the value

The Dutch "Tavern" scene is super old and actually painted on a copper plate, it also shines super green under black light, but again value and age elude me, but it is very old.

I am most curious about the very old floral fruit still life, I would love it if someone was able to decipher the signature.

I will reiterate recto/verso as I send new pics for each.

Thank you everyone! More to come!

  17. I also have an original R. Meeker Land of Evangeline, but value is something I cannot attest to, I have seen these mid 1800's Meeker landscapes go from 16k to 75k...Thoughts?
