    Yes, the first one is a stone oil lamp. the second does look like it could be a kumkum / tika box to hold the colored powder that Hindus use to mark the forehead. Any Jewelry will be able to tell you more.

    The brass box is Dhokra ware, from tribal Orissa, eastern India. The peacock would suggest something beauty associated like a tikka box, but other ones I have seen were called betel nut boxes. The shape also suggests betel nut storage, rather than tikkas or powdered pigments.

    Looking at stone oil lamps, I have found many of the same basic shape that are identified as "Islamic", some more specifically as Persian. But I have found several examples with bird head handles that are identified as coming from Afghanistan:

    That's right, it's called Sindoor box that a Hindu women use which indicates she is married, widely used in Indian subcontinent. This holds a great significance in Indian society.
