Need help identifying this piece

Can anybody tell me what this piece is called, approximate era, and where it was typically found in a home? Thank you.

Looks too deep for a hallway but maybe.

 

Art deco gentleman's dressing stand circa 1930. Most likely English in origin.

That is an interesting piece of furniture.

Question for Verybrad and Johnnycb09 and any others -- what would you put/place (if anything) on the (seemingly large) flat surface in front of the mirror?

I hate to say it but . . . it looks like "wasted space" to me unless it is placed lower under the mirror than it looks like (to me) in the photograph.

 

Maybe one's canes and walking sticks and such go there, YourTurn?

On second thought, I think it needs to stay bare so that our gentleman can assess his entire reflection, head to toe.

 

I would think shoes . The more I look at it the more I think it might be a little better than usual . That curved wood arm is lovely , and something about the lines just makes me go hmmmm . It could be a " name " , but that's all conjecture . I love it !
