    Hello,

I am not sure if this right place, but I really has no clue to classify this item.

Attached please find photos of an art piece I bought with a folding Fan collection.

The material looks like leather or some other type hard fiber material, and the painting seems to be peacock.

Please let me know if you have insides. IMG_2962.jpg IMG_2961.jpg IMG_2965.jpg IMG_2964.jpg

A Javanese buffalo hide lamp shade. It is made the same way as 'wayang kulit' puppets, and has a 'wayang kulit' puppet theme. It dates from early to mid 20th century.
Interestingly, they also made fans the same way. I have two of those fans.
The seller is wrong, it is buffalo hide, and decorated with 'wayang kulit' puppets, not 'wayang golek'.
Kulit means leather or hide. Wayang kulit is the oldest form of wayang, and it originated in East Java. The puppets are flat with pierced decorations, because they are used in shadow play. The light of the lamp shines through the pierced designs on the puppets.
Wayang golek dates from a later period. It is a tradition of the Sundanese of West Java. It is played with three-dimensional painted and dressed wooden puppets, and is not performed as shadow play.

The seller is also very ambitious with his price, and why on earth would he sell lamp panels individually.

The seller doesn't exactly know what s/he has and is making those (wild) suppositions we so often see on online sales/auction sites.

    Exactly.
The Dutch seller is only marginally better, Dutch people should know better than to call everything Balinese.
