Hello everyone. Not sure if this is the correct forum but it seemed the best fit. This carving, not including the base, is some kind of horn. I saw some Rhino horn once and this sure looks like it.
It is 8.5 inches long by 2 inches tall and is solid. The little white ring on the tail is a repair. It was my grandmother's but there are no marks on it at all.
Is there a test for rhino horn? All input and advice would be appreciated.
    Thanks

komokwa The Truth is out there...!

Meaning no personal offence.....while it does look like horn, it does not seem to have either the shape or color of rino horn....

and no one in their right mind either now or 100 years ago would have used a Rino horn for such a lame ass carving.......

This would be more like it....

    IMHO..............

Yes, I would say water buffalo horn too, with bone inlay. Animal carvings like this tiger were made in India, probably still are. My father used to take them back from his travels for us children.
Your tiger looks like it could be 1950's, and is nicely carved.
