I have inherited this oil painting. There's no signature. It looks very old by the back of the frame. Any information would be appreciated.

It's definitely an oil? Could it be possibly a print?

From the frame and backing, early 20th century.

With that corregated cardboard backing, I vote for print. A much closer view of the image could change that opinion.

You must stop by sometime. We also host occasional preview receptions.

Jivvy the research is my favorite

As close as I can tell, it's painted directly on that backing.

Or, we need more pictures. Possibly both.

I agree, Jivvy. "Both" would be even better.

My family has been in NYC for six generations. My grandparents and great grandparents did travel often in Europe. Prior to that- Austria, Germany and Russia.

just asking because it could be the remains of a Bauernmalerei (yokel paintery) from the Biedermeier period from somewhere continental. often seen on old cupboards and chests.

These types of paintings are commonly known as "flower pieces" and are generally Dutch, although other European painters (Swiss, German, etc) also painted them. They have a long history going back to the 17th century, and are pretty much always the same compositions, floral arrangements sitting on a ledge.

Until quite recently, they were still produced in Holland, mainly for the decorator trade and were quite affordably priced. Yours may be older, judging by the frame (if original) it probably dates to the 1920's or so. Just my opinion of course!
