vanity set 1.jpg vanity set 2.jpg This vanity set is in near perfect condition. It was purchased by an American woman while in Germany in the 1970's, she said it was purchased from an antique shop.

    Hi, Coby, and welcome!

What a lovely set! Are there any marks (perhaps silver marks) around the edges of any of the pieces?

Hope you don't mind, but I've enlarged and lightened your photos a bit and am posting them here so others can see them better:

I first thought it could be 1920s, but those candle sticks look Art Nouveau. The feet on the tray could be too.

I agree it is older also. The ones you saw later did not include the clothes brush or the candlesticks.

Also, there is a long blonde hair in the brush, I wonder where I could submit it for testing to identify the owner. :)

Coby, might it be possible to take a few close-up shots of the top surface of one of the items? I still can't tell if the edges are silver, and if the design on top is enamel or something else.

That's really sweet...you'd think there would be marks somewhere...?

I thought you were the owner ??
    What kind of test..??

If the root of the hair is intact, it contains the DNA of the person from whom the hair came.

Well, I'm the owner now. I meant the original own who actually used it. I think it would be neat to do a DNA test. But then again, maybe someone used the brush a few years ago. But I do think it would be neat if I found out who the original owner was.

It would, but impossible, unless you know the history.

A DNA test can only identify a specific individual if the tested sample can be compared with another sample confirmed as being from that person. Having provenance for vintage items is fun, especially for something so personal. And welcome.
