Not sure if it’s a dragon on the front or if it’s been added afterwards. It does have wheels on two of the legs. The only manufacturer clue is the stamp 1150. Renaissance Revival in the manner of RJ Horner of New York. Not by him though. Looks like oak ca. 1900. The dragons, wheels and paws are likely original.

And if ever a chair was begging for messing with, it's this poor thing!

Welcome @SJHANSON19 . That was once an impressive chair, will you be restoring it? If so, can we see the result?:)

I'd be in there with the tung oil or similar. Given the condition you can do whatever you want to it. I have a hunch someone was going to strip and paint it originally and got as far as stripping it. I've seen these old Victorian chairs redone with African mud cloth and looking really good. It all depends on where it's going to end up of course.

Not sure I would call this anything but Victorian. Am on board with the c. 1900 date. Found this rocker with an upholstered back similar to what yours should look like.

The lions on the front of yours appear to be gesso. They will not look like wood with a standard wood stain applied. You may need to do some kind of paint treatment on them.

If it's gesso it may have been painted black with gold trim originally.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

@SJHANSON19 , welcome to Antiquers! It would be great to see what you can do with it.
