Hi...I think it is a dough proofer. Probably from Europe??? The top is stationary, the side lifts off. There once was a hinge or it was modified for a hinge, It has dowel IMG_20190516_092456_381 (3).jpg IMG_20190516_092537_650 (2).jpg IMG_20190516_092648_067 (2).jpg pegs the side fits on an it snaps into place. There are venting holes on the back. Most open at top. clearly this does not. Ok any ideas? origin, age, value?

    Bigger than a breadbox?

A dough proofer??? How can that be without a source of warmth?

3 foot long by 19 inches wide 32 inches high. The 2 holes in the back I figured was for ventilation... or to place in front of a heat source if it is a proofer. It may be a coffin of a different source, but there is and was no lock on it so I figured it wasn't for valuables.

How tall is the interior of the compartment itself?

Reminds me of an old salt box.

I'm with brad. You'd not varnish a bread dough bin like that for one thing.

Ok...Well it didn't make sense that the top didn't open and only the side did. And I figured they may have varnished it years ago ….the legs threw me off, as well, European maybe? I have never seen anything like this, and haven't come across anything similar on the web. It has the dowels to place the sideboard back on, but at some point there were old hinge marks. Has anyone seen one of these before? what do you think a value should be placed on it?

Probably American. Have seen many variations. Not a lot of value without the radio.

no...not really. it has only 2 1/2 inch holes on the back. I is a good 16" deep as well. It came from a 130 year old family home, and it may have existed before that. They were Scottish and French Canadian...there was never a good reason to get rid of anything! This may have been a married piece. It has all the hallmarks of a dough box IF the top came off instead of the side. AND if it wasn't varnished. I figured it was some type of coffer, yet with no lock that I can see.
