I have this painting for quite a while,
but have never been able to find out by whom it is.

I have researched Thaler.E, Thuler.E, Thalen.E, Thulen.E and probably all kinds of names i can’t think of anymore but wasn’t able to find a match.

I do know though that Paul Tollinger was probably a Mirror and Glasmaker in Innsbruck Austria :

It also appears that some parts of the signature are darker than the other.

I would love to figure out more about it and appreciate any help.

edit : Im also fluent in German and still can’t make it out.

Tough to say if that second letter is an "h" or not...That 'double-sig' is a bit ambiguous. I found a pretty large Austrian surname database (guessing here, given the Innsbruck connection). Here are the T surnames, if you want to take a gander:

I start to realize I should’ve mentioned that I am fluent in German which I totally did not think of at the time I created the post as I was too focused on all the other details.
I am also familiar with many common Austrian names but I couldn’t find that one.

Maybe the age could help to narrow it down to a certain artist?

out of curiosity, what exactly is fluent ? there are many people here that think they are fluent after 2 - 3 years of German in college.

It looks like Thulen, but could be a sloppy Thaler.;)
(I am one to talk, my handwriting is terrible)

Since FlowingHair is German, I think it is safe to assume fluent in German really means fluent in German.

Looking at it as stray paint, it could be Tauler, like the 14th century mystic Johannes Tauler.

    I have the worst handwriting.

FE67316B-1195-480F-A7EE-E30F6C863DCB.jpeg The stray paint is what I suspect, but more in the the first 3 or 4 letters after the T and perhaps the E at the end, I also suspect it’s the easiest to see it is at the L as it appears over drawn.
It just seems to be of much lighter color underneath.
    I may be wrong.

I also have a painting by the same artist. There is definitely an ‘e’ before the surname on mine. I live in the UK but my mother came to live here from Vienna, hence why I have acquired the painting. I’d post pictures but I’m at a loss as to how on this forum! If I work it out, I will.

Here are some pictures I’ve just taken. The signature is slightly clearer (I think!)
