    dear all

i am not sure if this is meant to be a trinkets box or and food dish box. it was all tarnished, so i polished it. i think it may have been painted/coloured on the cover but the cleaning took everything off :shame::hilarious:

the handle is 4 1/2" high, 6" at the joint. the base frame is 2 1/4" high where the glass is and 5 3/4" x 4 3/4". silver plated? but no EPNS mark. it has a BB mark on all the metal bits, inside of cover and on the handle and base frame. the cover is decorated. the fish on the cover seems odd and looks like a bad replacement part :rolleyes::D

the glass box is 5 1/4" x 4 1/2", it is pressed glass, right?

who's BB and is it silver plated?

    regards

    Hello!
    Cute box!
The site 925-1000.com shows this BB mark as belonging to B. Bohrmann, manufacturer of silverplated items out of Frankfurt Germany.

I can't tell for certain from the photos, but yes, the glass looks to be pressed, rather than cut, to me.

I think this is what's called a sardine box. I have one in silverplate (no glass) with a similar fish-shaped knob on its lid.

    Hi,
I concur with quirkygirl with it being a sardine box. A really nice one to boot.

called a sardine box because they were actually used for sardines?? :wideyed::wideyed::happy::happy:
can't seem to find a historical writeup of the company. would this sardine box be dated early 1900s?
