    In my neck of the woods it would probably sell for around $75. Looks to be 1940's.

    Might be just a tad earlier. $ is right in the ballpark at retail but might have trouble finding a buyer. Unfortunately, would sell readily if painted.

    That is a sad state of affairs indeed. We had a 1930's drop front desk that we couldn't give away at $60 and once it was painted black, it sold for $200 a couple years back.
