Need help with signature and strange numbers on artwork.

Bought this out of curiosity. Was sold to me as a print with no signature. Had a closer look and looks like the artwork came loose and the artist signature was hidden behind the frame. Cant really make anything from the signature. Maybe somebody recognise this signature or maybe the style? Does it read J. Hemes??

It also has a few strange numbers to the bottom left. Never seen something like these numbers on a work before. Any ideas what these are?? Stock numbers? Would also like to know what medium this is. Is it wood cut or maybe a silk print or?

Looks framed in circa 1970-80s?. Any Info/input is welcome.

    I know.
Its one of them signatures! I also research Lemes and other combos but no result yet. Need to know how they call art like this so I can specific my searches. Is this contemporary art or how do they call this.

Why do artist sign like this? They must know how import a signature can be.

Still curious about the numbers in the artwork. Any thoughts on this? I'm really interested to know/learn what these are. Doesn't look like a date and also not as edition numbers?
