    Serpentine, like Bronwen said.
    I wouldn't call this tribal, really. It is a modern sculpture, and I agree, Maya-inspired. I would interpret it as depicting a Shaman.
    Maya face and Shamanic would be two reasons for me to buy if I came across it.:)

    Sorry, if I caused misunderstanding. This was posted in Jewelry Forum. I wasn’t suggesting it was a Traditional tribal item, just a change to Tribal Forum. :oops:

    It is probably steatite but think Bronwin is close enough with serpentine. Also might be called plain talc or pipestone. If any of these, it should be soft and have a greasy or oily feel to it. Because it is so soft it scratches easily. Your figure looks pristine so I think that it is fairy new.
