Need suggestion on a vintage sword or knife

It is knife but with a sword handle. Do you think it is a re-polished broken knife?

 

It's very nice. Looks like a cut down officers sword/dagger to me. But, that is just guessing. Someone will know and I am anxious to find out what it was used for.

 

It does look like a broken sword blade that was made into a "trench knife". Other than that I got nothing...........

 

@jingyel ,Something doesn't look right to me .... the castings look "India" like, the blade very thin, the soldered "ring", the scabbard could be a marriage, the wood too new and unused : it could have been a cheap fraternal sword....hard to say without more detail pics ...however, I could be totally wrong ... @springfld.arsenal , any input ?
