Featured Netsuke help please

I have had this little chap for about 20 years but am not sure what it is made from or if it is even old. There are lines like a grain running through it but I found it difficult to photograph. The base has yellowed over the years but the rest is a creamy colour. I think the subject is a Noh actor or mask painter? It is about one & a quarter inches high.
Possibly made of bone (but no pores that I can see) or ivory? Age - I have no idea.

Any help or advice would be appreciated, thanks.

I'd bet ivory, more detailed pics of the base with better lighting might help.

 

Some enhancement starts to show the typical Schreger line pattern of elephant ivory...

 

Looks like resin to me with the holes.

 

the one hole looks like someone hot needle tested. If you have a loop, look for cross hatching.

Between photos & written description, I see ivory.

 

I will attempt to take some better pics in good light tomorrow. A couple of the "holes" circled above are not actually holes but fragments of paint/ink.

Resin or some kind of (early?) plastic, imo.
