Featured netsuke tortoise info/help

howdy folks

found this little grumpy sod at a boot sale yesterday

i paid only £5 for him as i think he's pretty modern and not a worn type

has a little signed bone inlay disc

be interesting to see if he has any age at all though

don't know if the mark is a traceable signature, or waffle

he's pretty cool though, and seems to have expression to his face

one black glass eye, and one silver ?

any thoughts or info appreciated

 

I like that the carver did the underside of the feet.

 

yeah thats a nice touch, but some of the carving lines looked rushed (like on top), i'm tempted to tidy them up a bit

 

he's beautiful......I wouldn't touch him...... u know they bite , eh ??

the wood reminds me of ironwood...
and that's a lot of delicate carving on the legs and throat ...

 

The plates of the plastron are cockamamie, haphazard. Was surprised to see that after the care that was taken with the carapace. The tail is very true to life though.

The holes look to me to be the same size, which is not how a working netsuke is made.
