Found this last weekend at a sale. It's an oil study of a Eureka,CA alley, most likely in the Old Town section. The 'coinky-dink' re this scene is that this is where my Dad used to sell newspapers in the 1930's during the Depression.
He loved to tell how around Christmas the local 'working girls' would give him an entire silver dollar as a holiday tip !

Thanks Debora-yep Randy Spicer, did a number of IMHO rather spectacular murals in Eureka's 'Old Town'. Can't find much else about Him-frustrating because I think he's quite good.
Here's another couple pieces by Him-

Great painting @bosko69! And I really like this last one above--- the irrigation ditch and cows / barn. Awesome.

Thanks Pott-That's where I come from,Humboldt County. It's cow manure, redwoods, lost coast grandeur and towns pretty much frozen in time (as is the economy), but for an artist-it's pretty fine.

I liked the first one; it reminds me of 1930s ashcan school art.

The creek in sun an' shade is very attractive, Bosko...can you say what its title is? I would like to look for a print of that...Thanks!
In years past, when in Eureka, I regularly stopped for supper at Luna's Mexican Restaurant...what an oasis it was for this weary traveler! I'm only now aware that it has changed hands a few times (to be expected, of course...it's been at least 15 years, maybe more). It was YUM!

    Exactamundo Ruth !
Whit-I think it's called-"Grizzly Creek (Trinity Alps)", the other one w/ the cows is called- "Arcata Bottoms #51."
Luna's sounds great-it's a pretty quaint burg. Last of my kin there died about 15 years ago,so it's been a while since I've visited.
I used to have a big 1930's group photo of my fireman Grandpa (Hose Co#3 ) standing in front of a late 20's American La France fire engine in front of an 1880's Eureka fire station.
-I'll have to dig out his badge one of these days.

I LOVE this! Beautiful texture, composition and brush work. His other pieces are great too but I love a good "alternate" city view. I love an artist that can make beauty from the unexpected; what people usually consider an "ugly" view.

I love your painting Bosko! Great find! I love that part of the country too. You are lucky to call it home.

Im a sucker for a city view as well. I agree very "ashcan" wich is what i like the most about it.

I'm with you Mirana, and he captures the lonely faded beauty of this old coastal town well.
Eureka was a huge lumber & fishing town for decades til the fish decreased and lumbering slowed-then the economy cooled and froze, hence no large-scale slash & burn redevelopment that leveled much of the Bay Area and So Cal history.
Retirees are moving there now from richer parts of California and finding much of the brick and Victorian ambience intact-I hope they manage to preserve it.
Dag-We live in a small town just south of Portland now,but I've got a lifetime's worth of Eureka memories.
PS-Here's a few shots of Eureka, the first one's a montage of a turn of the century cattle drive thru the middle of Old Town superimposed over the same location today. The second pics just a shot of Old Town at night.

I agree Whit-I gotta feelin' the saloons and a few of the working girls were doing land office business that day ! Somebody was really cleaning up-including the city employee sweeping the streets.

I have been to Eureka the once a couple years ago. A sibling with their family moved there and my parents followed. It's a lovely place with great a temperature.

I rode my bicycle along the Oregon and Ca coasts in the summer of 2022. North of Eureka, in the redwoods, it rained a lot and my tent leaked: I woke up one morning sloshing in 1" of water in my tent.

In Eureka, was able to get a new tent and a delicious lunch at 'Los Bagels' the next day.

    Delicious!!
