Hi all,
I have found a mail in my pro box from a forum about antiques, normally they go to spam, but the subject of the first post opened was very interesting for me because one of my center of interest, then I'm a new member. ;-)
Living in the french part of Switzerland, I'm in the antiques conservation and renovation since three decades, working in respect of CITES and ICOM rules, really specialised in cleaning small objects and repair of statuary in all materials.
Interested in many subjects, collecting corozo and coconut carved, and too many other subjects than it is really possible to leave normally with…
English is not my mother tongue, then please excuse my approximative writing please.

I think you are going to be very helpful when we are debating whether an item is ivory, bone, horn, or fake.

Thanks a lot for those messages, as an old anecdote, when I was shooting in MLAIC championships, all the time I go to a country overseas, they were a dozen of swiss army knife(metal handles) in my bag for making trade with other shooters or just as a gift, my wife make the better deal with australian shooter, opals against swiss knife…
That was a time(the story of the knifes) we never see again when I go to Canada with the rifles and ammunition in the same plane, at the airport a police officer comes and escorting me go to a closed area where I can let my material for the time of the holidays before championship…

Yes, it can comes from the "canton du Valais" and is called "table de changeur"(use those words with Google), the lions are used in swiss heraldic, more coming from the german part of the Alps, I join an example of heraldic use of lion and fox in Valais.

Swiss Army knives. I love it. I carry one always, at least what they sell here in the US as a swiss army knife. You're right, the plastic handles ones break after a while. My latest one broke after two years. is there a difference between the ones you can get in Switzerland and the US? I search online and always get the same result - the Victornix brand?
