    :rolleyes::rolleyes:
    ‘picked these bad boys up this morning. I am hoping someone out here can help date them. There seems to be a maker mark in the photo of the backs, top right but a far stretch they can be identified, still I’m *crosses fingers*. There is only about a thousand different ones online yet these do appear unique in their own style. It doesn’t come out in the photos, but there is a slight vertical curve indicating it was on more of a carved log shape rather than flatwood.

    ‘anyone with some knowledge on solid brass/bronze(?) antique Lion Head Knockers? Age? Made(seems back bottom of rings were cut?)

    I’m noticing most knockers have a bolt that goes straight though the door for installation. I am imagining that occurred after people started stealing them. Just wondering(and hoping) if the holes on each side for nails or screws indicates more age?

    Also is the crudeness of the back rings any indication of age? Photoroom_20240616_091025.jpeg

    Are. you sure they aren't drawer or door pulls? I don't see them as knockers

    Does look to have some age.They don’t seem heavy and solid enough to be functional antique door knockers (to me) Also just two screws to secure? So they can’t be very heavy (I would assume) I would think they are just for decoration (maybe on a door or for furniture)

    that didn’t cross my mind but interesting to think about. Thank you. At 6.5 inches I’m now thinking an armoire door pull as Boland noting. Thanks

    I’m a bit more confused than ever. The back flatness of the rings doesn’t lend itself as carrying handles. Placed it on my door and it doesn’t make a good knocker. A pull for cabinets doors seems practical but the size, curve and oblong rings(which I can not find in other Lion heads) is still awkward now.

    ‘does anyone have a guess on age? I’m thinking 18th or 19th. *shrugs*

    I don't like the casting or the patina ....for it being older than 20th century....
    imo....;)

    IMO they look like poor quality reproductions. Rough/crude casting can be a sign of poor/rushed workmanship rather than age.

    On the back, there appears to be evidence of a different mounting system, though not functional in this version. Perhaps this is left over from the object that was used as the pattern for casting these copies -

    And I don't see any recesses around the attachment holes to allow for the heads of either nails or screws.
