The story behind this is that I grabbed it at a little antques fair. Seller said it was costume. I could see a mark, but not what it was. Didn't want to get the loupe out, it's a bit too professional. ;) And I thought it might be gold from the weight, colour and feel.

Anyhow, 9 375 mark on the pin, hooray!

But who the devil made it?

    Great find!
    Is that GAM or SAM?

Or 8AM? The dealer didn't even look at the pin stem; I've gotten my share of gold that way too.

GAM, I reckon and the other letters are OS.

    Yeah, pin stems! ;)

Nice score! Can’t tell how big but looks hefty for its size either way.

It's a very striking piece with those textured loops. Nice find.

Found these two but I suspect entirely irrelevant to your piece. All I can find at the moment

Thanks Kate! I'm sure it's continental or at least, not Brit with the trombone. Although 9 carat would be slightly unusual.

It's over eight grammes. I'm keeping it. Sold the other cheap one I bought, it was boring. This isn't.

Not that I am an expert but I heard that Cartier have 9 carat gold pieces. Long ago a friend got engaged and showed me her engagement ring which was Cartier made of 9 carat gold - at that time we didn't have Cartier in BG, the ring was bought in West Germany and it was a very big deal here (something like the emerald ring of Mitzi Perdue for you :)). You know, things are always relative. I was surprised to know that high end jewelry can be low carat. This is ref. to continental 9 carat jewelry, not that it is Cartier.

If I were you, I would do the same with this brooch. It is very attractive, I would wear it.

    Worth a follow up?
I can’t get the page to load more than this unfortunately so may be another red herring. It does say focussing on silver so maybe not….
