Hello Board Buddies! I am asking if I have the scene on this Nippon chocolate pot interpreted correctly. The pot is about 9 3/4" to the finial. I'm trying to find descriptors to set it apart a bit. I think these are children playing with flags on one side and mums on the other. Is my reading correct? I'm estimating date at circa 1900. Thanks very much for any information you can provide.
    Don

I don't see flags - the bottom child is holding a fly whisk, middle seems to be balancing a ball? on a stick, can't really tell about the top one though.

    Yes on the mums!

Thanks, Bakersgma! Glad I checked! The top child does seem to be holding a pennant but...

    Your response is much appreciated!

You should check the meaning of the symbolism.

I know these are Japanese, but the symbols between Chinese and Japanese are probably very similar in meaning.
I believe both the Chrysanthemum and the boys are symbols of longevity and good fortune. But double check me on that as I am going on memory.
