Just picked this for $6.It's missing it's stopper, but for $6-I just couldn't leave it sitting at the thrift. It's 7 1/2" high, and the most amazing thing about it (cause they aint going for big $ anymore),is that it isn't bashed -which an oxymoron for charity store pottery. Nippon1.jpg

I think it is Noritake (Morimura Brothers), 1911 Backmark that was probably used until 1921. It's very nice, and who needs a stopper.

    The drunk monk certainly doesn't.

The monk looks like a transfer to me. The areas around the central image may be what's hand painted.

    The Monk's def a chromolitho transfer,the rest (moritage,dots & landscape) look hand-painted.
This'll make 2 Buck Chuck taste like 3 Buck Chuck !

Thanks John-it was a surprise to see it sitting there in the middle of all the dusty Rubbermaid.
The price was good, the exceptional thing was the absence of dings,cracks,etc-thrift staff aren't allways the gentlest w/ ceramics.
