Featured North African Bracelet or fake?

I found This bracelet and once again, I have no idea about it. It belonged to my parents, probably brought to them by my Grandfather who travelled the whole world.

Could it be from northern Africa? Is it even antique or just an item for stupid turists?
I guess it is madeof bronze or copper?

Height is around 7cm, Diameter around 5cm

Waiting for AJ to identify. My first guess would have been Afghani but could be Nomadic African. Very cool. Are you sure it’s not a lower grade tarnished silver?

 

Ditto. Imo it is a Nas Kurai bracelet from the Hindu Kush. The Hindu Kush is a mountain range in Afghanistan, Tajikistan, and Pakistan.

No, not even for clever tourists. It is traditional and vintage or (just) antique.

More likely silver, possibly low grade as @reader mentioned. It needs a bit of tlc.

I think your exposure to ethnic jewellery has been similar to mine, but I have delved deeper into it, whereas you have garnered more knowledge on SW NA jewellery and vintage Mexican. Great team, eh?

any tip how this is best made? I guess a silver polish cloth will no be enough

And probably skin grease from a nice lady in the Hindu Kush.
I would soak it in soapy water first. Use a liquid handsoap, or maybe shampoo. Rinse and dry well.
Then you can use a sunshine cloth, a very good brand of silver polishing cloth.

 

I think it calls for a dinner date!

 

As AJ said. You want to clean it but not make it screaming bright.

 

Wearing our finest ethnic, SW or Mexican jewellery, of course, preferably all at the same time.

 

I have decent general knowledge of ethnic jewelry. YOU should be teaching a graduate level course!

There are people who are much better than I am, but many of them are more specialised in one or two regions.
I don't have their very specialised knowledge, but because I combine insights in jewellery designs and techniques with knowledge of trade routes, other cultural influences, and historical events, I have a broader perspective than many. And I regard European regional jewellery as ethnic as well, which also helps to see links.
