Not old - but what's this whatsit?

It looks like a piece of Brighton chrome ecch, but it's not marked for Brighton. There are two fairies sitting on the two bitty lids, each of which fits in a shallow depression. It was in a box lot of jewelry. If the lids fit tightly and it was properly lined I'd be thinking contact lens holder, but this ain't that. There seems to be space for engraving. I'd dump it into a donation box, but want to be able to tell them what it is first.

Tooth fairy box for when you knock both front teeth out?

 

Is it the right size for a double (wedding) ring box?

 

It is a ventilated kitsch.

 

That's a thought - use it for shotgun practice? Kitsch fairies would make a nice target.

Possibly, if a bit shallow. I'm trying to picture a guy putting a wedding ring in a box covered by fairies, or any adult woman using it for anything at all other than !PULL!.

 

Do you think maybe there were two glass jars that sat in the depression and the covers fit the jars, but they broke?

Or got separated. That makes as much sense as anything. There are some people locally with more money than sense. If I donate it, one of them will end up with it.
