Bought this today for $2 from a very friendly (and very foul-mouthed) Vietnam veteran who said he only paid $1 for it and so was happy to double his money. :hilarious:

He said, and I think he's right, it's Makah or Nuu-chah-nulth.

I've never seen a basket like this before, woven with wire accents, and I thought I'd share it here.

I think more likely an experimental basket by a (not necessarily Native) artist. There is a modern interest/revival in making baskets as art, using a variety of traditional and non-traditional materials.

It's strips of cedar bark, a common material in NWC baskets. But as noted above, also used by non-native basket-ers.

Ha. He was super-friendly. After the 'I doubled my money on this basket' comments he started talking about how his bank once gave him a better interest rate on his savings acct but they didn't tell him that the increased interest would push him into the next tax bracket by the end of the year and so he'd end up losing money while the bank profited off using his savings....
